I recall quite early as a child, I was called "ITK" which was the local sarcasm for "I Too Know". Almost everywhere I went, I was called this name because I was anxious to understand and to share understanding albeit small and insignificant when compared with the level of understanding displayed by those older and more experienced than myself.
Why this talk about my quest to gain deep understanding? Well I realized that the primary sin of Adam and Eve was that they disobeyed God's very simple command, "Do not eat of the tree of Knowledge of good and evil".
I guess this presents two ways of thinking,
- Divine life precedes knowledge
- Knowledge being the basis for acquiring life
Remember, the book of John says "In him was life and that life was the light of men". In essence, Life precedes light. The bible says that "It is not in man to direct his steps". We were not designed to function that way. The way God designed us was for us to totally depend on Him. I have recently come to a place where all abilities, knowledge, understanding and personal wisdom has failed me. I simply just can't function without the Lord. You do not acquire life by knowledge but you acquire knowledge by His light. This is his pattern, this is his plan that His life will precede light.
